First Blog: Introduction

Welcome to my Modern Times blog! My name is Holeva, I am a history and political science major, also minoring in English. I am the second eldest out of eight kids and am very family oriented. With decisions and how I think, my family is my priority. My way of thinking is partly Machiavellian, I am a big fan of Machiavelli's The Prince. Additionally, as a Tongan our culture is very important with a focus of four things, loyalty, obligation, obedience, and respect. Reflecting on the pandemic, it has brought hardship but also strength. It has been tough trying to adjust or adapt to such sudden changes so quickly, which I guess you can say is a part of modernity. My main aspirations in life are to obtain my Bachelors and Masters degree. In the future I hope to enroll in graduate school to study Anthropology with a focus in Archeology. I am excited to be a part of this class this semester!
